Why Does My IP Address Change?
It is common for home users to see different public IP addresses over time. In most cases this is normal behavior.
Common reasons your IP changes
- Your ISP renews DHCP lease assignments
- You restart your router
- You switch between different networks
- You use a VPN or proxy service
Is it a problem?
Usually no. Dynamic IP addressing is standard for many consumer internet plans.
When a fixed IP is useful
If you host services remotely or need allowlists, ask your ISP about a static IP option.
Track your current IP
Use the main tool before and after router restarts: What is my IP?.
